How to check that a card break was random and fair
You can check a break result yourself if the breaker published a commitment and a proof. The check recomputes the shuffle from the locked lists and the seeds, and fails if anything was changed.
What to look for before you buy
- Written rules for hits, inserts and shipping.
- A commitment (a long code) posted before the break starts.
- A promise that the viewers' seed comes from chat after the lists are locked.
- A link where you can check the result afterward.
How to check a BreakSeal link
- Open the verify link the breaker shared.
- Wait for the page to finish its checks. It recomputes the shuffle in your browser.
- A pass means the teams, the buyers and the seeds produce exactly the assignments shown, and they match the commitment posted earlier.
- A fail means something does not match. The page shows no results when the check fails.
Server-verified or Self-reported
Each break page carries one of two labels.
- Server-verified. BreakSeal's server held the secret seed, set the time and recorded every run. The breaker could not peek, backdate or quietly re-run.
- Self-reported. The break ran in the free app on the breaker's own device. The result still matches its commitment, but you are trusting the breaker about when it ran and how many times.
What a pass proves, and what it does not
- It proves the assignment followed from the locked lists and the seeds, with no changes afterward.
- It does not prove what was inside the box, that the cards were pulled as shown, or that they were shipped. Use the stream recording and the breaker's reputation for that.
- It does not prove the buyer list was complete unless you can see the list. The lists are part of the commitment, so a breaker cannot change them quietly, but you can still ask to see them.
Red flags
- No commitment before the break, only a result after.
- A refusal to share the lists or the link.
- Several runs with no explanation. A re-roll should be listed with its reason.
- Pressure to buy spots before rules are written.
